Natural Environments
Early Intervention services are authorized through Part C of the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) . Services are to be provided in “natural environments,” which are defined as “settings that are natural or normal for the child’s same age peers who have no disabilities.” Examples of natural environments include, but are not limited to the home, child care centers, parks, shopping areas, and other community locations. The Early Intervention Provider Handbook contains information about natural environments.

Individuals new to the early intervention system often have questions to arise. The Early Intervention Training Program offers another level of support: New to EI Forum! On the first Tuesday of each month, from 3-4 pm, new providers will have the opportunity to ask questions about our field and our work. EITP team members and partners will be available to answer your questions and provide clarification, guidance and support as you familiarize yourself with the EI program beyond the Systems Overview.
