Provider Connections is contracted by the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) Bureau of Early Intervention to credential, enroll, and provide technical support to Early Intervention (EI) providers interested in the credentialing and enrollment process. As part of Western Illinois University’s Center for Best Practices in Early Childhood Education since 1997, Provider Connections has assisted the Illinois Department of Human Services in providing leadership in the Illinois EI system.

Our mission at Provider Connections is to ensure that professionals working in the Illinois EI System possess appropriate qualifications, enhance their professional growth, and strengthen their understanding of children ages birth to 3 with special needs.

Here are some steps you can follow:

  • Fill out a new application by visiting our website and downloading a fillable form here.
  • Use the checklist provided with the application form to make sure you send all the needed documents. 
  • Sign up for System Overview trainings on the Early Intervention Training Program -EITP website. 
  • Mail your completed application form and documents to us at Provider Connections.
  • Look for an email with this subject heading: Account Creation and Authorization Required for a DCFS Background Check, requested by Provider Connections/Center for Best Practices in Early Childhood Education.  Please follow the action items stated in the email.
  • You will receive an email informing you what steps to take next.

Are you a fluent speaker of another language?

Bilingual interpreters and Interpreters for the deaf provide services necessary during the rendering of other EI services in order to communicate with the child and family and written translation of EI documents into the child/family’s native language.
